AI chatbot for law firms

By the PrimeWebKit team

A law firm's website chatbot exists to do two things well: answer general questions about practice areas and process, and capture a qualified lead for a consultation — never to give legal advice. That boundary needs to be explicit in the system prompt ("never provide legal advice or opinions on a specific situation; always recommend a consultation"), not assumed, since a model asked a pointed legal question will otherwise try to be helpful in exactly the way you don't want.

Within that boundary, there's real value: explaining what practice areas the firm covers, how consultations work, typical next steps after an initial call, and what to bring to a first meeting. These are logistics questions a chatbot answers well and consistently, freeing intake staff from repeating the same explanation to every caller.

Lead capture is the core function here more than almost any other industry on this list — a visitor asking about a specific legal situation, even in general terms, is a highly qualified lead. Capturing name, contact details, and a brief description of what they're seeking help with (via a lead-capture instruction like "ask what type of matter they need help with along with contact details") gives the intake team enough context to prioritize and follow up appropriately.

Conversation history matters more for law firms than most industries too — being able to review exactly what a potential client described, in their own words, before the first call gives the attorney meaningfully more context than a bare "name and phone number" lead would.
